Jay's Past Adventures

From the US Embassy in Somalia to Retired Life!

Former Aerial Gunner Instructor with the United States Marine Corps from December 1987 to December 1993. Maintained and flew on the CH-53E helicopter. The most notable event was the Night Mission to Mogadishu, Somalia, January 5-6, 1991, to evacuate the US Embassy being taken over by armed African Rebel Forces.

  • A veteran of the Gulf War – Desert Storm & Desert Shield.

After I enlisted in the Marine Corps, I was hired by the Winston-Salem Police Department, NC, in January 1994. I achieved the rank of lieutenant and served my final years as a field commander in the north district. I retired in March 2024 after 30 years of service.

I also have a passion for photography and operated my own business with a portrait studio in Kernersville, NC, from 2005 until closing in 2012. My focus was on family and wedding photography. I still have a passion for photography and consider myself an experienced hobbyist. I have obtained my Part 107 commercial drone license and plan to integrate photography from the drones.

I now spend my retired life with my family, woodworking, fishing, and riding my motorcycle (2022 BMW 1250RT).

Feel free to contact me, and I'll get back to you.
